In 2018, to celebrate its 190th birthday, Guerlain commissioned eight photographers to give a personal interpretation of their most famous fragrances. Inspired by the illustrated advertising campaigns created by Lyse Darcy for Shalimar from the 1930s to the 1950s, Vasantha Yogananthan travelled to Bundi, Rajasthan, India. Working with Mahalaxmi Karn, a non professional model, he created a short story using the city landscape as a backdrop. The photographs, originally shot in black and white using a large format 4×5 camera, have been hand-painted in New Delhi by Indian painter Jaykumar Shankar.
